Living in Ecuador for one year

Is it possible to live in Ecuador for one year before filing for resident status?
We spent three months and 13 days there since February, and we had to get a six month visa.
But it seems that once you do that, you can't get another stay after the six month period is up during the same calendar year.

Is there some kind of visa that would give us a whole year to live there?
