Supermarket discount cards NOW FREE

Good news for those who shop at Supermaxi or Mi Comisarriato. The EC government has forbidden companies from selling membership cards that provide discounts. So the both supermarket discount cards should now be free. No more paying money to save money.

The downside is that they may in turn lower the amount of the discount to off set the cost of the card. Still it is a good idea for gringos to use the card because it does provide data to the companies of what we folks are buying so they can stock up. This is especially true for all the "imported" items some of us can't live without: Aunt Jemima Buttermilk Pancake mix, Duncan Hines cake mix, Skippy peanut butter, Pace Picante sauce, Heinz ketchup and A1 sauce -- you know the essentials of living!

This is a recent change ~ heard it on the news tonight ~ and is part of anti-monopoly legislation here in Ecuador
