Hello everyone,

I've been reading on the site for a couple of years now gleaning info but never posting. My husband and I will be moving to Ecuador from Canada summer or early fall 2012. We've visited a couple of times spending most of our time on the coast from Bahia down to Salinas. We've found several areas that we like but now I'd like some info on Esmeraldas area from anyone who lives there or has lived there. Is it unsafe as everyone seems to say compared to any other areas of Ecuador? Is there any sort of expat community in any of the towns besides Esmeraldas city? Any help or suggestions about websites for the area would be appreciated. Info for the area seems fairly limited compared to Salinas or Montanita. Thank you all for your help
