Ok, got into Quito last night around 7 pm on the Miami flight. Clearing customs was super easy and fast. The line moves quickly and no BS at the counter. Getting luggage was a bit of a circus…but worked out, then into the exit hall. Had a room booked at the hotel Villa Nancy, which I heard about on this forum. Villa Nancy was to have a driver waiting for us, holding a sign stating our name. Once in the exit hall, saw lots of signs but not ours. Ok, let's call Villa Nancy, into the computer to get the number. Oops, neglected to transfer that document to the traveling computer; next time need to have a paper copy of all numbers and addresses with me.
Tiny bit of panic, then Ecuador swings into action; airport exit hall security guy directs to a tourism office in the exit hall, the lady there looks up Villa Nancy, we call them, and hear that we have no reservation there. Reason--there are TWO Villa Nancy hotels in Quito and we were calling the wrong one! Be aware of this and go to the right one. The helpful tourist lady can't find the second one on the internet.
A couple of wrong numbers later, we improvixe and go to the taxi office next door, which helpfully gives us the number of the other Villa Nancy. Back to tourism office, call them and ask where our ride is. At that exact moment, the taxi dispatcher from outside the airport finds us on her own inside the airport and takes us to our taxi.
Our ride has apparently been waiting for us outside the airport the whole time, sitting in his taxi, but with no sign (we did look outside)…not sure if this was a screw-up on their part or we should have clarified exactly where the driver would be!
Total of 4-5 friendly and helpful Ecuadorians helped us figure it out…
And off we are to the hotel…
