Airfare Discounts for Seniors

I have heard and read a lot of conflicting information on this topic. I have heard that the tercer edad discount of 50% is only for flights within Ecuador. I have heard that it applies to any flight originating in Ecuador including all connecting flights for even a round trip to USA destination and return. I have heard that one must go to the ticket counter at the airport to obtain the discount. I have heard that the flight must be purchased through a travel agent to get the discount. I have heard that it only applies to Ecuadorians and not expat residents. I have read that it is a benefit obtainable by expat residents.I have personally been to the Copa website and found that the only boxes to check are for adults and children children, not seniors.

Would some senior citizen who has actually flown and obtained the tercer edad discount on airfare please tell me the real information about this.
