Censo Information

I am NOT an expert on VISAs, however, I received this from our attorney today because he is helping several of our clients. Thought it was worth passing on.

As most of you know, Immigration Police Department does not have the paper to grant censos since December last year. It is March now and they still don’t know when are going to be able to grant censos.

Instead of censos they are granting letters just on the next cases:

1) if you got your residence visa and need to get the cedula

2) if you need to leave the country

1) Fist case: You have to come to Quito. Immigration Police Department will give you the letter in order to allow you to get the cedula. That letter will be change for the censo once Immigration Police Department get the paper. Letters says “are valid for 30 Days” , it does not mean you have to change for another letter, unless you need to travel.

2) Second case: you must approach the closer Immigration Police Department (except La Libertad, Santa Elena Province, in this case you should go to Guayaquil) before the trip, showing your air ticket.

All cases you need to bring:

2 pictures
copy of the passport,
copy of visa
Copy of Impuesto Predial 2012 (municipal land tax) if you own a property
Copy of the lease contract including cedula of the owner
Copy of a utility service (electricity or water)
4,00
Certificado de Registro (just for residents, this document will be given to you once you get your visa stamped into you passport).
