Disabled Expats

For disabled people considering becoming Expats, the risks and rewards of moving across the globe are ripe with potential but can also feel rife with risk. Researching the pros and cons, people are leaning toward GO. In ever increasing numbers, people with disabilities are choosing to take a leap of faith without answers to many questions which can have direct impact on their health. Health care related specifics can be difficult or even impossible to come by before the move is made. For many people dependent on medications, specialty medical care, support equipment, etc., there must be a combination of services as needed and synergy with the rewards and challenges waiting to be discovered.
Brave people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, MS, CFS, severe arthritis, etc, like everyone who makes this move, deserve to garner the rewards of improved health, a more natural, much more affordable, less stressful existence and interesting, surprising health care options -- in all, a more rewarding life.
Yet important health information is difficult or impossible to come by.
Several magazines have asked us to use our medical/writing backgrounds and our current experience with exactly these decisions to create articles to serve people like us.
We want to include many voices with ours. May we include yours? Please let someone know about this project. Tell us about accommodating businesses, health care provider information, etc.. Please share other stories about health care in Ecuador and other countries. We are interested in any information that might help us open doors to different countries with different options for people with disabilities.
