Returning Dogs and Cats to the USA

From a post on Ecuador Expats (Face Book)

Posted by a individual in Cuenca ...

" Here you go:• Dogs must have a rabies shot 6 months before departure.• They must be up on all vaccinations and have official proof of these shots. • Dogs must go to a vet 24- 48 hours before departure day and have a health exam. • This health exam must be printed on official papers (The vet should have the paperwork) • Then 48 hours before you leave Cuenca go to the airport to the department of Agriculture and get a piece of paper then go across the way (Hall In airport) and deposit 14.50 in the bank of Guayaquil. • Cross back over to the Agricultural dept. and give them the deposit slip and wait for your paperwork. My friend who just took 4 dog back to the US waited 2.5 hours for theirs.• Her vet did the health check 2 weeks before and dated the certificate for 48 hours before our flight. You must not let the Agricultural guy know if you do this since the exam is supposed to happen no longer than 48 hours before the flight… so preferably you need to tell them that you saw the vet the morning you are at the Agricultural Dept. getting the paperwork. BUT the date in the exam certificate has to jive..• On the USA side, they barely glance at the paperwork but if you do not have the Rabies no admittance."
