Question on Opening a Restaurant in Ecuador

Hello-
This is my first post. After reading various posts on this forum, I consider this a "test" post. That is, I've no tolerance for rude behavior.

My wife, who is Ecuadorian, and I are going to start the second half of our life somewhere on the coast in about 4 years. We're US citizens, though my wife has many relatives and friends in-country, specifically in Guayaquil. We understand the culture and we interact with Ecuadorians in the U.S. all of the time.

We have no desire to take advantage of the Ecuadorian people in any way, as in flipping homes or catering only to ex-pats. My wife is an expert in the Spanish language and I'm slowly becoming a competent speaker/reader/writer of Spanish.

I've read the few general posts on here about opening a restaurant in Ecuador. My specific question is this:

How difficult is it to establish a restaurant administratively, in terms of government requirements and regulations? Along these lines, is it hard to get approval to sell alcohol in a restaurant?
