Questions. PLEASE only answers from expats living in Ecuador currently!

A bit of background: I'm a U.S./Swedish Citizen who happens to be a bit concerned about some rather recent developments in what appears to be deteriorating diplomacy between the countries of Ecuador, Sweden, the U.K., and the United States. The situation with Assange being granted asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London is all about Ecuador's claim that if he's extradited to Sweden to face sexual assault charges, Sweden may send him on to the United States to be tried for crimes with sentencing consequences that could include the death penalty. Another concern: recently EC President Correa has been banging the drum about how he feels the United States is trying to de-stabilize his Government and has even stated the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency has or had plans to assassinate him.

My question to (primarily) U.S. Expats in Ecuador: have you noticed any changes in the attitudes displayed toward you? Do you find having to deal with governmental entities is becoming more difficult? I noticed some of the people posting valuable info here (not simply sniping at each other) have said that the residence visa, always difficult to nail down, has apparently grown a tad more difficult.

Thoughts? And, please. If you don’t live in the country, the only way I’ll find any value in your opinion is if you left due to concern about situations like those stated above.
