I were to tell you 98% of whatever you need can be found here and if you don't have access to Brand Names, you will still have access to quality hand-crafted goods (including furniture) at 1/2 the price.

High count soft cotton sheets, electronics, XXL clothes, shoes all can be found in Quito but then again, most of that stuff can be packed away but overweight charges would negate anything you'd save.

I could say as far as big kitchen appliances and big household goods the difference in cost between a container and buying from scratch would also have to include the hassles you'd avoid in shipping and customs.

Read the entries here and you'll see more container-related horror stories than happy endings.

For the Cotacachi area the place to go is Ibarra, 1/2 hour by bus. They have most any of the essentials.
