Which Visa is right for me?

I am coming to Ecuador around May of next year. I have done quite a bit of research on different areas. My granddaughter may come with me and stay on a tourist visa for six months, but I want to get my resident visa while I'm there so I can have that option to stay longer or return quicker. I've read about all the different types of visas, but don't exactly fit into any of them. I am 57 years (will be 58 when I come) and I am on Social Secutity Disability (SSDI). I am coming there to retire, but I have read that I must be 65 or older plushy have a minimum income of $800. My income is slightly over $1,000, but I am not 65 yet. Also, I don't want to make an investment of $25,000. Can't afford to, and want to rent someplace furnished anyway so I can move from Bahia to Cotacachi every six months or so. Is there a loophole that can get me in on a pension visa? I'd appreciate any help I can get with this. Also, is it best for me to go ahead and apply for the extended 180-day visa here in the US or after I arrive? If I find a resident visa that will get me in, can I go ahead and start my paperwork for that without having my extended tourist visa? Ok, I've given you something to think about. Thanks in advance for your help.
