Efffect of Gringo Invasion

Someone, most likely an Ecuadorian was on this forum recently blaming the influx of North Americans for the price increases in Ecuador.

He is badly informed. I cannot speak for places other than Cuenca, but the economy is booming here. New housing and commercial construction is everywhere you look. What is driving the economy is the fact that Cuencans have the highest per capita income in the country and that Cuenca has the largest middle class in Ecuador and they are spending their money. New cars are everywhere, people are well dressed, going out eating at restaurants shopping at malls etc.

The gringo invasion of Cuenca is about 1% of the population and is not having much impact at all.
