Obtaining Citizenship in Ecuador

Applying for citizenship can be done 3 years after receiving your permanent residency visa. Once you’re a citizen you can apply for a passport.
The list of documents required for citizenship are below in Spanish and English.
1. Partida de nacimiento debidamente, legalizada y traducida al idioma castellano.
2. Copia notariada del pasaporte en que consta la visa vigente de residente.
3. Copia notariada de la cédula de identidad y del censo migratorio.
4. Tarjeta índice del Registro Civil
5. Certificado de no adeudar al SRI.
6. Certificado de no adeudar a la Municipio.
7. Certificado de no adeudar al IESS.
8. Certificado de Antecedentes Penales ecuatoriano.
9. Certificado de ingresos como empleado y aportes al IESS
10. Cuatro fotografías originales a color.
11. Copia notariada del pasaporte y visa de mi amparante
12. Movimiento migratorio del amparante
13. Copia notariada de la cédula de identidad del amparante
14. Copia certificada de la certificación de ingreso de valores en custodia del certificado de depósito que respalda la visa de mi amparante
15. Certificado de no adeudar al SRI del amparante
16. Certificado de no adeudar al IESS del amparante
17. Certificado de no adeudar al municipio del amparante
18. Certificado del no adeudar al IESS de mi amparante
19. Certificado de antecedentes penales de mi amparante.

1. Birth properly , legalized and translated into Spanish.
2. Notarized copy of passport which has the force of a resident visa .
3. Notarized copy of the identity card and migratory census.
4. Civil Registration Index Card
5. Certificate of not owing the IRS.
6. Certificate not owing to the Municipality .
7. Certificate not owing to IESS
8. Ecuadorian Criminal Record Certificate
9. Certificate of employee income and contributions to IESS
10. Four original color photographs.
11. Notarized copy of passport and visa of my amparante
12. Migratory movement of amparante
13 Notarized copy of the identity card of the amparante
14 Certified copy of certification of income securities in custody of the certificate of deposit that supports my visa amparante
15 Certificate not owing to the SRI amparante
16 Certificate not owing to the IESS amparante
17 Certificate of not owing the municipality of amparante
18 Certificate not owing to IESS my amparante
19 . Criminal record my amparante.

This list was accurate as of June of 2013, but this being Ecuador, all government regulations are often written in pencil. Getting a visa is a piece of cake not needing a lawyer. Citizenship can be daunting and a lawyer will be needed.
