Best Immigration Office

Little Miss Thread Count here again with another question, one that may stir up a little "discussion" for those who are getting bored. I'm either going to land in Quito and hang out there for a few months or so until I get my immigration visa approved. Or I may land in Guayaquil and head up to Cuenca for a couple or three months until I get my visa approved there. At one time I read some chatter here or on another forum about the Cuenca office processing visas a little quicker and with less hassle than Quito. True or not? I am going to spend quite a bit of time traveling around EC and only need a small short term furnished rental in either place until I ultimately decide where I want to park myself for a longer term. And, sinego, thank you for wondering if I had been to EC before and hoping that all would work out OK for me! What a gentleman! Things seldom work out exactly as I plan, but they always work out OK! It's called having an adventure! Now, don't have a coronary, but no, I have never been to EC before. I don't see any need to go somewhere to find out if I really want to go there. That seems redundant to me. I'm headed to EC to see if that's where I want to have a home base for a year or 2 or 3 while I check out the Big Neighborhood (other countries in South America). I am "a woman of a certain age" and I still haven't found any one place on earth where I want to live for the rest of my life. I guess it's genetic (My Irish ancestors were gypsies). I want to start my Ecuadorian adventure in either Quito or Cuenca depending on 2 things: Which immigration office is the quickest and with the least hassle (I'm taking care of it myself, no lawyers or facilitators. I'm a very organized and competent person, especially with paperwork and bureaucracies), and which city has the best option for brushing up on my Spanish. So, who recommends what?
