October scouting visit, need a little direction

Hi everyone... I've enjoyed reading the forum and educating myself and fiance on life in a few years in Ecuador. Our choice is to be by the sea where we can take advantage of the beauty and culture and great fishing! We both read and speak decent Spanish and have aspirations of starting a business to stay busy even though we will be retired. Our ages will be 57 and 47 when put the US in the rearview mirror. We seek some modern conveniences, decent healthcare and figure places close to Salinas and Manta as being able to pacify those "likes". We are seeking a location that has offers forward thinkers and those who really care about people a place to consider. Haviing traveled thoughout South America many times I find the people of Ecuador especially wonderful. Our trip is for 10-14 days to drive the coast. Would love to meet some of you along the way!.
I have so many more questions but would love any input from those who might offer a little direction as to where we might pay particular attention.
