Immunizations and vaccinations.

Just finished interview with firm in US called Passport Health - sorta scared the crud outta us. I noted our itinerary included Ecuador and points South. They unloaded the list of vaccinations, and carry along meds that should be (highly recc'd) included.

Please, don't shoot the messenger (I'm not too smart), this can all be reviewed @ CDC and Passport Health websites. Passport is a biggy in the states (and expensive).

For the most part, most problems are function of bad water and mosquitoes. Plz crrect if wrong, but the highlands have little skeeter problems.

First, our itinerary includes EC, then Peru to Lima, Machu, Cuzco, then hopefully, Chile and maybe to Argentina. The list of recc'd immunizations is pretty close for each country..

Recommended to be vaccinated for...

Hep A & B
Typhoid
Yellow Fever

Consider a rabies plan if close proximity to sketchy mammals.

High Altitude - look into Diamox (Machu Pichu, Cuzco)

Consider Doxycycline for anti malaria (if in areas of concern)

I have Ecuadorian friends in Quito who advised

Drink bottled water, it's generally available (heard Cuenco has awesome clean water, state of the art water treatment plant)
Use caution when ordering raw veggies (salads, etc), as may be washed in questionable water.
Cooked veggies should not be a problem
Street vendors... meh, if fast turnover, shouldn't be a problem (use common sense).
I've eaten some truly scary stuff all over world, w/out issues (and got food poisoned at a Hilton in Albuquerque).

I mean absolutely no disrespect, and am only noting what I've been told. Again, in the highlands, fewer mosquito concerns (clarify?)

I would really like some feedback, Plz and Thx

Mark
