I really do appreciate everyone's patience with my endless questions but my wife and I have so much to consider before we come down as we want to get the most out of our first trip there. We definitely want to visit and explore Cuenca, maybe Vilcabamba, but we also want to get a feel for the coast and visit some of the places there (are there any decent/affordable golf courses around?). Maybe we should rent a place for a month somewhere like Santa Elena and then strike out on day trips from there? What are our options for getting around? I’m guessing we can fly to places like Cuenca and Manta, but what are our options for getting to and around places like Santa Elena? How long would it take, for example, to get from Manta to Santa Elena? Can you rent a car with just a driver’s license from your own home country? Are buses frequent? Safe? What about hiring drivers to get from one town to another? Again, I really do appreciate everyone’s help. Maybe we’ll get to hook up with some of you fine folk when we get down there.
