Relocation

I am not looking for the typical "what's it like to live in Ecuador" info. I left the US in 2008 and I have been living abroad in various countries since. I am married to a Peruvian woman and we have a 3 yo daughter and we have been in Peru for the last 4 years. I will soon have my Peruvian passport, but my wife and I are considering a move to Ecuador because we find Peru to be an intellectual desert (I know how that sounds, but I have become frustrated by the lack of curiosity and interest in anything that requires intellectual effort here, among other things of course). I have no need to live near other expats, although I enjoy the company of my expat friends here. We are fluent Spanish speakers. I like the "selva" but I want to live in the high selva where you may need a blanket at night and I wont be sweating all day every day (we live in the Peruvian Amazon now and it is HOT!) I make a living from outside the country and as I understand it, my income will not be taxed in Ec as it is not in Peru. My questions is, what is life like in Ec for a well versed expat and his family in the high jungle. Is there access to high speed internet (my job requires it)? Are there quality tools available? What is the highway infrastructure like? Is it easy to move about (we use local transport without difficulty)? What food and spices are hard to come by? What do appliances (cook stove, refrigerator, etc.) cost? How is the postal service (are deliveries from abroad easy)? What are the locals like? I know these topics must be covered in other areas, but if you would indulge me in the down and dirty review, I would be most grateful. I am simply interested in what it may be like to move from my current expat haven to another. Thanks in advance.
