Five Dollar Bills please !!

Yes, we need fivers down here in Ecuador. When you come for the first time or are returning as a resident, please bring in a couple hundred dollars in fresh fivers.

You will be doing everyone a favor including yourself. The five is large enough to be useful but small enough that the counterfeiters ignore it and its easier to give change for.

If you bring in say $400 cash you might do half in twenties and the rest in fives. Do not bring 50's or 100's....the ATM's are reliable and that's a better way to produce those amounts. No merchant will take them.

Residents - do all the national banks in the various provinces have the fresh five dollar bills to exchange for these totally worn out bills?

We are being pushed toward barter and script, tabs.

Change is a problem here in paradise.
