best way of calling the US from Ecuador

My husband and I just moved to Crucita three weeks ago from the US. We cancelled our Verizon service (we were paying over $200.00 per month). We now have Ecuadorian phone numbers using a sim card in our cells. With only 50 minutes of international calls per month using our phones, what is the best and least expensive way to call family members and friends in the US.
I have a skype account, but it is tied to my old US number.
Can anyone give me tips on how to do this.
