Ecuador and end of life

A few years ago I talked to several expat gringos in Cuenca and Vilcabamba about the situation for old retired foreigners in the country. About what was or could be available to support their lives. What stood out was that for the Ecuadorians family was the first resource. The church and government social services were a distant second.

It then boiled down to the sad fact that "we" old gringos do not co-operate, do not get along well enough to join together to face this common challenge. We have the money and Ecuador is a good environment for this....but we are spoiled children even when we are 80 years old. We want it all! And this is just the still rational old person. When we start to loose it physically or mentally our needs grow astronomically. This is from personal experience during my snow bird decade.

Death itself isn't sad. It is a part of life as much as birth. But the gauntlet we must run to reach it is too often sad and painful.

I have tentatively decided to return to Ecuador in two years and never leave it. I have the retirement visa, it says "indefinitiva" and
we shall see if it is even after five years out.

anyone have thoughts on a collective solution/palliative ?
