Visa process: Do-it-yourself vs hiring an agency

Good day to all,

My husband and are in Ecuador at the moment with the intention to live here. I would be an expat. I am a U.S. Citizen, currently on a tourist visa; my husband is an Ecuadorian citizen. We are looking at the visa options and leaning towards Permanent Residence Amparo Visa by marriage.

I have always been a do-it-yourself person with any kind of legal or governmental process in the U.S. It's been a challenge trying to get accurate and consistent information online regarding visa processes here in Ecuador.

Have you all managed your visa process yourselves or have you used an agency? If you did use an agency, please share your experience and cost. Was it worth the cost of using the agency.
