Dear readers,
My Name is Alina and I am from Germany. I am a 19 year old volunteer here in Cuenca. I have been here for around 4 months now and i can only say even in this short time i fell in love with this country and especially this city. The beautiful Center and the people are so warm and open. I will stay here for one year and work with the non profit organization FUPEC (familias unidas por enfermedades catastróficas) we help people with catastrophic diseases especially cancer.
FUPEC was actually one of the reasons why I chose Ecuador for my volunteer year because my work here is so rich in variety. One day we accompany people in the hospital, the next day we have a workshop or event that we have to plan and the next we do a trip to the cost to help children with leukemia. It is their goal for 12 years now to improve the health care system in Ecuador and obviously help the patients.
As you probably can imagine is our work not always easy but you get so much from the people back that I would chose this work field every day. In the time that I have been here I have learned so much and I am very thankful for these experiences. And the fact that our team is so lovely (we also meet out of work) makes me even more happy.
As any fundacion we need all the help we can get so if you feel like what we do is worth supporting we welcome you into our family :)
