Looking for towns in Ecuador

I enjoyed 3-months in Vilcabamba earlier this year, and returning to Ecuador later this month for a 5-month stay. The purpose of this trip is to visit towns/communities that might be candidates for a longer term stay. I'll initially spend 6-weeks in Cuenca, using it as a hub to visit such places in the surrounding area. Then make my way down towards Vilcabamba looking for the same along the way. Your thoughts and suggestions would be sincerely appreciated!
