American in Cairo

My husband and I are moving to Cairo in July. He will be in grad school and I will be working. We are both Americans with no kids.
I have tons of questions of course for anyone who wants to take a stab at answering them.

1. I am very active and fit. I play three sports and work out regularly at a gym. Will I be able to do this in Cairo? I have played soccer since I was 5. Will I be able to join a soccer team right away?

2. Apartments. Is it true that many apartments come furnished? Should we bring clothes only? Or should we alos bring our dishes, towels and bedding?

3. Will be electronic stuff (computer, hairdryer) work in Cairo or should I buy adapters here?

4. We are bringing our pet cats. Will they be able to leave the country and go back to America with no problems after two years?

5. As a woman, how much of my independence will I have to give up? In other words, will I no longer be able to walk around by myself with no fear?

Thanks to anyone who wants to answer!
