I am a 32 year old single female considering a job at a middle management level with a European company in Cairo. I've been to Cairo a few times on holiday and am not concerned about if I'd manage to get along there but primarily I'm looking for anyone who can give me an idea of living expenses.
The company would pay for a flat and yearly ticket and I have heard many many times that Cairo is cheap. However, what exactly does "cheap" mean?
I'd LOVE an idea of monthly expenses for the following if anyone can give them:
- groceries (including a few of the available 'western' goodies!)
- Cost of dinner with wine at a 4-5 star restaurant
- Internet connection
- Cost of a mobile phone line & cost of local calls
- Cost of renting a DVD (or can one buy decent quality pirated copies easily in Cairo?)
- Rough cost of water, gas & electricity for a 1 bedroom flat (in case the company isn't paying for it)
Also, they're located in Nasr City but I am told that Nasr City is not a particularly nice place to live and that I'd be better off living in Heliopolis. Any opinions?

- Heliopolis to Zamalek
- Heliopolis to Nasr City
- Heliopolis to Cairo centre
- Heliopolis to Giza
