Residency Requirements

I am moving back to El Salvador in 5 or 6 months. I am married to a Salvadoran and we want to apply for me to get residency in El Salvador. (I am a US citizen). We married in the US 3 years ago. The ES embassy website has a residency application online, but when I called the embassy closest to me, the lady told me I have to live in El Salvador 4 to 5 years before I can apply - even though my spouse is Salvadoran. Does that sound right? Should I consult an attorney in El Salvador? Your thoughts? Thanks! Ixa
