We are living in France on a "temporary contract" that allows us to be exempt from paying French SS taxes for up to 5 years as long as we pay US social security and have our own medical insurance. We are considering making France our permanent home and have been trying to find out what the costs and implications are, especially with the social security taxes. One person has told us that we'd have to pay the 5 yrs back taxes upon going "local".
I would really appreciate any information on this or a direction in which to look. I'm not finding anything on either country's websites but I just might not be looking in the right place. "smile" Any thoughts? Thanks, Lori
