Bringing electronics

Will someone tell me once and for all if it's really worth bringing electronics? I'd like to hear from someone who's actually done it. I know there are transformers, but when we are talking about Televisions, and more specifically, north american video equipment, does it really work that well or is it better to just buy a new multi-zone player when you get here?
