Single Parent coming to Paris - Help!

Hi there. I'm a single mother moving to Paris next year with a 4 year old son. I'm already getting lots of pressure for my decision, that my son will be lost as he has no french etc (he'll be going to a state school). Has any one had any experience with moving english speaking children in to a french speaking/state school? Also, what are employer's attitudes toward's single parents - is it a bad idea to mention it at an interview? How are single parents generally viewed in France? I'd really appreciate any helpful comments, as while I am determined to do this, it's going to be very tough to do it alone. Any pointers would be really useful.
