Buy chalet business, live there and run it

Hello,
My husband are American and are planning to buy a chalet in France and move there to run it as a lodge--likely an existing business. Does anyone know if there is anything special we need to do to do this? In terms of getting a long term visa, or problems with working there, (it would be our own business). Do we need to get a visa before we buy? And how do you do this since the long term visa requires proof of income (which would be the income from the lodge). Any advice people have would be helpful.
