I am desperately looking to change my job but I am not sure what the consequences would be if I decided to move on considering my status in France. For a bit of history, I have been working in a French company in Toulouse for about 1 year and 7 months. The first 6 months I was under a CDD contract via a temp agency and I then switched to a CDI contract working directly for the same company. I am a software developer born in the US with about 14 years of experience and I have a CDI grade status of cadré (manager) and a position of 2, level of 1 and a co-efficient level of 115.
My CDI contract was signed last year on the 3rd of August and I have yet to receive my carte de séjour “salarié”. I've fulfilled all the required procedures to receive it. I have also just passed my last medical exam and have thus received all my certificates via the OFII office. In other words, I am just waiting for my convocation to pick up my carte de séjour “salarié” at the prefecture. If you are wondering, I've been working legally by renewing my récéipissé every 3 months or so. I am not looking to change departments or my profession.
I have read that some people have trouble changing jobs even if they have found another similar job with similar pay. Some people say that it depends on the prefecture that you are in. Some say that the people at the prefecture do not process the paperwork for the new company because the person should have worked at least 12 months or so after they receive their first carte de séjour. Some people say that it is much better to renew the carte de séjour at least once before you change jobs.
I rather not wait until a year passes.
So with that, here are my questions:
1) Do you think I would have a problem if I wanted to change jobs considering the fact that I have worked more than a year in my current job?
2) Do you think they will consider the amount of time I have worked or do you think they will base the dates on the time I have worked *after* receiving my carte de séjour?
I don't have a job lined up but I do get inquires as to when I can go for interviews and start work. The sad point is that I do not know what to tell them unless I figure out my principle issue. Sadly, I can't seem to get any standard answer on this.
I really appreciate any help you guys can give me.
