Long-Term Visa App

With my (minor) daughter, I am planning to spend 11 months living in southern France, with friends. I do not need/want to work while there and have sufficient savings to show I do not need to work. My questions are: 1. Is a letter from my friends sufficient proof of address/lodging? 2. If my intent is to go in early July 2018, when should I apply for our long-term visa? 3. In applying for visas, do I need any documentation of the fact my daughter will attend the local public school (my friends have discussed with the school and mayor and we could get a letter if needed)?
