Proof of Residence in France for Long-Term Stay Visa

Hello,

My wife and I are in the process of applying for a long-term stay visa, we will be applying at the Chicago consulate.

The question I have is regarding the requirement to show where we will be residing upon our arrival in France - and more specifically, how long of a lease we will need to show at our appointment?

I have read that people have had a hostel booked for the first 2 weeks when they arrive, and I have seen people who have had AirBnB's booked for a couple of months - we are looking for clarity on the proof of rental, and specifically the period of time that we will need to show that we have something rented for when we arrive.

Since proving where you will live when you arrive in France is a requirement to be granted the long-term stay visa, there should be a lot of data on what length of time people have been required to show at their appointments with the consulate.

If you are reading this and you have been granted a long-term stay visa, please reply with the specifics of what the length of your rental agreement was for your appointment, and if the consulate provided any specific requirement on this topic.

We will apply to Chicago, so I'm most interested in hearing from people who applied in Chicago, but it would be good to also know what the requirement was at other consulates.

The reason for the question is to make sure that we are meeting the requirements of the long-term stay visa application so that we will be granted the visa on the first try. Knowing how long we will need to have something rented for at the appointment is one of the unanswered questions.

Thank you!

Shawn
