Moving from London to Aix-en-Provence

Hi all,

I just joined the Expat Exchange France Forum to hopefully benefit from the experience of anyone who has done what my partner and I will be doing shortly.

We plan to move from London to Aix-en-Provence in the coming months (hopefully by the beginning of June in fact).

Has anyone moved from London to Aix (or South of France) who is able to recommend a good moving company? We have had some quotes from a few companies already but some seem rather exorbitant if I am honest.

Also I would be interested to hear others' experiences around finding rental accommodation.

We have been having a lot of negative responses from estate agents -- even though I will be starting a "CDI" job and earning enough to cover a few times the rent, it seems to pose a problem that I haven't yet passed my "période d'essai".

Also apparently problematic is that my partner and I don't have tax history in France -- it seems crazy to me that that should matter; surely it should be enough to prove that you are working and paying taxes in another EU country (notwithstanding Brexit of course ;-) )

Anyway, I would love to hear from anyone who has successfully overcome all the hurdles and left the UK to make a new life in France
