Auto insurance

Hello,
We are getting ready to move to France from UK before brexit.. we bought a left hand drive car which
is french registered. We thought it was smart to buy a french registered, but now we cannot get car insurance! I called a UK insurance and they can't insure it if it's
French registered. The French insurance agencies all require a 'home' address in France. We don't have one yet, though going down next week to find an apartment(and were hoping to drive down). In the meantime we can't
get the car insured! (unless we re-register temporarily in UK, then
re-re-register in France, which would cost us). I do have a cousin in Paris that we could possibly use as an address but would not be able to offer proof of residency there. Also Ionly have a US California Driver's license. I can't imagine we are the only ones in this situation, At this point we can't even pick the car up. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you.
