A Year In Uzes

Hi All,
I'm planning a sabbatical year in France, with the hope that this will lead to a permanent move - eventually. I was wondering if there were any expats already living in the area who would be able to help with a couple of questions:
1) How do I go about finding a property to rent for a year? I can't get beyond holiday rentals at the moment!
2) I'm a qualified English teacher and have been teaching in UK schools for 30 years. It doesn't have to be a teaching job, but I would welcome the opportunity to earn some additional income. What are the prospects of picking up some work in the area?
I've just joined this site, so I hope I've posted this correctly and would be very grateful for any guidance.
