Retiring in Annecy

I’m a retired U.S. diplomat, divorced, and ready to return to Europe, where I spent most of my life.

I speak fluent French, and served in Geneva, where I was very happy. It was very painful when I had to leave.

I think Annecy is where I’d like to live. I know the countryside, love the weather, and I know the town.

Clearly living in centre-Ville would be way too expensive. Are there areas close to Annecy, with public transportation, that are less expensive? Are there other expats also living in Annecy? I’m concerned that as an étranger, especially an older one, it would be difficult to fit in.
