Swimming in Toulon and Montpellier

Bon jour!
My wife and I are planning to relocate from the US to either Toulon or Montpellier, possibly in 2022, assuming the pandemic will allow. We are both Italian Citizens and have Italian Passports as well as US. We are avid swimmers and wonder about the swim culture, open water and pool, in the aforementioned cities/regions. Any info would be very welcome.
