Retiring in France

1. What are the downsides of retiring in France?
Mostly I have read about how great it is to retire in France, but there must be downsides...

2. How difficult is it to retire in France?
I see there is a lot of paperwork, but what else might be daunting?

3. I speak French relatively well but am rusty from disuse and know more academic vocabulary than casual, day-to-day vocabulary. Will I be alright?

4. I have a small budget and think I might be able to live more comfortably in France than in US. How much can a single senior woman live on in France, particularly the Loire Valley? I see that Seniors need to have a higher income than under 65. Is that so?

5. Is flying back to the US every year a reasonable expectation or a pipe dream? I have 1 son in France but 3 in US and 3 grandchildren.??

6. Should I buy or rent? Pros and cons?
