A Tough Decision - Where To Live?

Hello to everyone who already lives in beautiful France. My husband and I are considering a move from Portugal to France but we have already become rather confused by the vastness of the country and the diverse lifestyles offered. We are active retirees - we love to bike, swim, hike, horseback ride and play golf! We don't have a bottomless budget so need to find somewhere affordable. We also don't want to be too far from a large town or a city because we also like to access museums and shops etc. Finally, I already speak reasonable French but my husband struggles with languages so we need to be somewhere where there are at least a few English speakers! It's a lot I know - hence our confusion!!!! If anyone has any suggestions for areas that might suit us, please let us know - we would be most grateful. Thank you! Janie
