Address requirment

As part of the long-term residence visa requirement, I am required to present proof of a long-term living address. I am hesitant to enter into an annual rental contract before I even know the French Embassy will approve my application; plus, I understand the application could take up to 6 months. Is there anyway to obtain an address I can use without actually contracting for an apartment or house I might be able to use for my visa application? I anticipate moving to Metz. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
