Just found out we'll be moving to Cologne/Bonn early next year, I'm so glad to find this forum!

Mr. AZ will be preceding us for a few months then my 11 year old son and I will join him. We visited Berlin, Dresden, and Glasshutte in 2006 and LOVED it; we had the choice between Bonn or Prague and our preference was strongly for Bonn.

Now it's a certaintly and I'm thrilled and intimidated at once.

One thing I'd love from anyone interested/qualified: If you have a child around my son's age (11, 12 in February) would you consider some e-mail exchange between the two to ease the transition for him? At his age, he's very aware of how much this means and I want to ease him into it as much as possible.

Also, my German skills are--NIL. Nada. Nothing. Any programs stateside you recommend to learn? We're going to ask Mr.'s employer to help us in this regard and since they are very thrilled to have him I think they will come through on it, but in the meantime I'd like to get a head start.

Whew! So very much to think about--I was very active in the election campaign this year so when I found out on Monday I was just overwhelmed. Now I have to start this?!
