Long Stay Holiday/Living in Germany

Hello all - first time to post here!

I am looking for advice and information on my situation ..
My partner and I (26 yo - both have British passports) plan on doing the following - 6 month holiday around western Europe and then settle somewhere in Germany and bring our 2 dogs over and spend a further 1 - 1.5 years in Germany, possibly working but depends on how much money we will have as we are selling our house before we come over, if we have enough we will not work and it will be an extended holiday type thing.
i guess my question is seeing as we will only be spending under 2 years in Germany what would be the best thing to do in terms of finding accommodation with our dogs .. should we think about renting a house (im just a bit scared about all the rules and regulations and it seems so much more complicated than here in Australia - plus we will need a house with furniture, fridge tv etc.), or maybe stay in airbnb type accomodation? Because we will not be bringing any of our stuff over with us, just clothes, laptop and our fur-babies eventually.
are there any other options i have not thought of?
Being with our dogs is most important, is there maybe like a dog friendly caravan park/community or something .. i dont know whats out there!
