Permanent Resident - Car Import

Hi: As a permanent resident, I have heard that it is permissible to bring in a car from abroad, completely free of taxes/customs duty. There are restrictions, such as the car must be for your personal use and you are only allowed to do this once every set number of years.

Now this is what I was told and I am trying to find out if it's correct. Does anyone know?
