Hi Folks, new guy here. I’ve traveled to Guatemala a few times, for short visits (30 days), over the years, and it’s on the shortlist for a future move. I know there’s no MLS for real estate, and I’m well aware of “Gringo pricing” on everything from pineapples to taxi rides (a worldwide phenomenon). Also, have read plenty of excellent advice about renting prior to buying, hiring a good attorney for a real estate purchase, and other best practices.
Question - I hear occasional stories of people (who already live there) buying real estate for 50-70% of listed price. Anyone have first hand knowledge or experience with online listing vs. final sales price? Online prices seem really high in some of the more gringoized areas around Antigua, and I’m wondering if that reflects reality or if they’re fishing for overseas buyers who don’t know the area.
Thanks!
And remember - “Yo No Sabo!” ??
