Hello! We're looking to relocate to Antigua temporarily (although I'm already scheming on how to convince my partner that we should make the move permanent). Given our somewhat eclectic interests & needs, there are a few things that are super critical for us - perhaps someone can either point me in the right direction or tell me that I'm crazy.
1) Outdoor activities. My partner is mister outdoorsman. He loves rock climbing, hiking, and just generally being very adventurous. I know that there are some amazing hikes around Antigua, but wondering for long term stay - is there a lot to do other than just the standard volcano hikes with a group? Is it safe to hike solo? Is there a rock climbing community or easily accessible rock climbing areas near Antigua? We've looked at the standard resources, but aren't finding a whole lot - either it doesn't exist, or its one of those things you have to be 'in the know' to know about.
2) We have a 1 year old daughter & both of us work full time from home, so having high-quality, consistent, reliable, affordable childcare is critical. Ideally, we'd love to have an in home nanny 2-3 days a week and have her attend a local school a few days a week. Are there any resources you would suggest in finding and selecting a quality nanny? What would be the best way of 'vetting' a nanny if selected? In the US, we'd obviously do a background search, but how is that typically managed in Guate? Are there any really great schools (ideally Montessori or "Green" schools) in the area? Any other resources you'd suggest for a relocating family with a young one?
3) How is the quality of healthcare systems in Antigua / local area? Are there good hospitals / doctors in the area? Is there a good children's hospital?
