Move to Delhi (possibly?)

My fiance has been offered a position outside of Delhi and we are considering making a move next year. The company is paying for me to go out in the beginning of April ( a couple of weeks away!) to get a feel for the city. A few questions.
1. What neighborhood should we stay in to get a feel for what life their might be like?
2. He will be working while I explore. anything to consider with women safety while in Delhi?
3. Any must not miss restaurants or top Delhi experiences during this short trip to give us a vibe of the city?
4. Has anyone brought a dog with them when relocating. I plan to do so and want to look into it. Does anyone have a trusted Delhi vet could talk to about the process?
I am also open to the option fo meeting up with a friendly expats to talk about life in Delhi and the transition abroad. If interested I would be happy to buy you a coffee or meal and chat.
