Irish-German relations

Hi all,
I am currently studying German and am looking into the subject of Irish-German relations. Can anyone here possibly comment on this subject? I would like to know how you view the relationship, whether it be positive or negative. If you were you here in 2007, can you remember the controversy surrounding the German ambassador's remarks and do you think it has had a lasting effect?
